Jim, I looked at one a fella was selling when I was searhing for a baler earlier this year. They were build in the early to mid 90s so about 20 years old. They were built by Hesston, same as a 5530?
I think I was told. Really narrow pickup, so you would have to make windrows to match, but they will take all the hay you can feed into them. Also the guy told me they do good on the first cutting, but don't like the shorter material you get on the second or third cutting. Belts and bearings can be had just about anywhere that sells them. Other parts I can't say. My neighbor has a 5530, it does make a good tight bale. They are a good first cutting baler.
I bale with a Vermeer 605c and to start a bale I come into a windrow at an angle low RPM putting a small fold of hay into the corner. As you cross the windrow it starts to fold under the belts. AS you work across you turn back across and pickup RPM's,belts should start rolling the hay. The baler does best in tall hay, short hay can push thru the belts before you can get hay under all the way across and if the hay is just a little tough it will rap around the press rollers. Open throat balers have no problems starting a bale. The Claus drum baler was the easiest to run of all the round balers that I have run. I think Vermeer built the early International and badgerround balers and maybe the Massey.
Jim, it is common with the older balers that have several inches of gap between the belts. Short material falls between them and makes it hard to start a bale.
The balers with wider belts and just an inch or so between them, and like Mike said an 'open throat', do a much better job on shorter materal. An open throat baler moves material directly into the bale chamber from the pickup, as opposed to moving it between rollers, then into the chamber. If you're serious about a round baler and don't want to spend the money for a new one, something like a Hesston 555 is baler that would work good for shorter material. It's a 4' wide, adjustable fron 4' to 6' tall, built later 90s. I've seen them priced around $5000 for one in good field ready condition.

I would have bought the one still sttting on the lot at the end of my road, if the salesman hadn't said, 'if you're ready to buy now we'll talk, if not I don't have time for you.'

Proper lubrication of chains and sprockets is highly recommended by roller chain manufacturers and is critical for increasing the life of the harvesting equipment on your round baler. This allows lubrication to penetrate into the pin and brush joints which results in maximum performance, boosted fuel economy, and extended equipment life.
Additional key features and benefits: - Fully adjustable pump to modify dispensing rate depending on climate and current conditions. Brushes designed to clean chains and sprockets while applying oil. No need to stop and manually oil ever again! Esab tig welder reviews.
